November 2, 1996

Hey, guess what? Unpacking my things, I found this piece of paper that I had written down things to write in my journal later. Let’s see…

On July 10th I went to Duchesne to visit Grandma and Grandpa. I stayed a week up there away from my brothers and sister! I wish I could do that again right now. Jessica, like always, is being “Little Miss Priss”. She has to have everything her way or else! It isn’t just me; everyone thinks so. (Even my mom who disagrees with just about everything I say.) Mom said that is why she got the room upstairs… so they can watch her. Today Jessica got me yelled at again because I said, “Ouch” when she purposely hit me. I didn’t even touch her… but, oh well, what can you do? She did that even after I let her use my clay, play with my Slinky, gave her some of my Halloween candy and taught her how to play Solitaire… all just today! My dad is the only one who notices that I try. He’s a great guy, everyone loves him.

Anyway, (I kind of got off the subject there…) my friend, Tiffany, came with me to Duchesne. We had so much fun. We made dolls out of soap and paper Mache and beaded necklaces. I learned a lot about babies and how hard they are to take care of. My cousins are living there. I had to stay up with the newborn every night and babysit everyday. (They got a new dog named Tiger. He’s cute.) We also went swimming everyday in the river. We have a special swimming hole. My uncle took us; he sure was nice.

Next on this list are our pets… I haven’t told you much lately, have I? I’ll do better now that I have my own room. (Well, kind of. It’s a space in the basement with walls made out of boxes but it’s better than nothing!) First, my rabbits I had were Dusty, Buddy, Silvertip and Chester. I loved all my rabbits. Pursia, our cat, we had from the time Zach was born until he was 10. We have so many memories about him but if I talk too much, I will probably cry… We’ve had our turtle, Sebastian, since 1994. We still have him now… well, sort of; he is sleeping for the winter. He is a good pet.

I have been bit by a spider before! It happened on the 24th of July. It was the worst sting you could ever feel in your entire life! Luckily, it only lasted about 5 minutes; swelling and all.

I went to Lagoon last summer with Zach and our aunt and uncle. It was expensive… Zach still owes me $11!

My Young Women camps were the best! I got to go to 2 of them this year. I can’t wait to go to camp with our new ward next year!

Almost getting struck by lightning is next on the list. That was so scary! My friend, Tiffany, and I were walking to my house on a rainy day. Our hair started standing up and we ducked (like they teach you in school). We stayed there until our hair went down and ran! It probably never would have hit us but it was still scary!

Oh, now the “Green Finger” story. That was so funny! I was babysitting (this was about 3 years ago). It was nighttime but my siblings didn’t want to go to bed so we all cuddled up in Mom and Dad’s bed and told scary stories. I was telling “the Green Finger” story. I had just got to the part where the green finger was scratching on the window when we heard it in real life! Something was scratching at the window! We were all real scared. The scratching sound continued and I finally got enough courage to look out the window.

No joke, I saw a green finger! By this time, my brothers and sister were shaking under the covers! The scratching noise continued on other windows! When I finally convinced myself that “there is no such thing as floating, green fingers”, I went outside to see what was going on. I heard laughing noises and looked in that direction to see the feet of my parents as they ran around the side of the house. My father’s thumb was green because he smashed it with a hammer earlier that week and it looked like it was floating by the light of the street lamp. I was so mad at them!

2 more things… First, I was in my room early one Sunday (like 6 am) and I heard cutting noises at the window. I knew someone was there so I got against the wall and slowly looked out when the cutting stopped for a minute so, whoever it was, wouldn’t see me. Someone was trying to break into our house! I jumped off my bed and turned on the light. I heard the ladder fall (the one the man was on) and, the next day, the screen fell out and there were foot prints and marks from dragging the ladder outside. Mom and dad didn’t believe me. They wouldn’t even look. They said it was just a dream. I know it wasn’t though.

After I went to Duchesne, I went to Great-Grandma’s. That was fun. She easily got mad, though, because I am young and they are old and we did things different… but it was pretty fun. I helped her clean and got a lot of neat things. We got to see a play that my cousins were in called Storm Testament. Well, I guess I should go. I’ve babbled enough today. See you soon!
Love,
Melonie
